Music and art in Menorca
The taste by music is a tradition that comes back from many centuries. The recitales, concerts and festivales are numerous that become in Menorca throughout all the year, although are more frequent in summer.
There are numerous festivales in which we found all type of music: opera, works of Beethoven, music jazz, with instruments like the piano, violins, accordions, guitars, organ…
The places we found where them are the Church of Santa Maria in Mahón, the Main Theater, Cloister of the Carmen…
In Menorca it emphasizes the art of the painting that, like the island, is characterized for being small, pleasant and luminous. In the framework of more recent painters they emphasize three: You live Llull, excellent impresionist landscaper, that exposes permanently in Athenian de Maó; Torrent, whose painting evolved towards the expresionismo until securing the nickname of “Go Minorcan Gogh”, and that exhibits in the house museum of the street Sant Rafel de Ciutadella; and Matías Quetglas, recognized as much in Menorca as in Madrid, where it resides at present, and that has its paintings in institutions like the Consell Insular or Sa Nostra.
In summer it is when more painting exhibitions or photographs we can enjoy, private as as much public (room of Culture of Sa Nostra de Maó or Ciutadella).
