Architecture in Menorca

 
  The architecture of Menorca is not as well-known as the one of

Ibiza, although this must to the identification of this last one

in the Seventies with the image of the freedom, simplicity…

that it caught all the attention. Nevertheless, Menorca has one

typical and caracterizadora architecture, as much or even more than

Ibiza. An architecture that allows to read its trajectory to

length of the time, the step or establishment of different towns and

cultures in the territory.
    The houses of the rural world are typical, with interminable

stone walls that delimit the property and defend

harvests of the wind. They are grids sprinkled white small houses

with the green ones of the field, around the towns. They are

made of great blocks of marés (arenaceous stone) and wood

of acebuche, materials which one had centuries back

on the same way (these houses are in the ways:

hills, valleys…). They have the inclined Arab tile roof, designed

with a rustic orifice for the collection of the rainwater,

whitened in its edges, the walls oriented to the south,

guinea fowl of target, blue ocher and to conserve the cleaning of

small village and simultaneously to waterproof the walls, the different ones

dependencies without apparent internal organization, furnaces stop

to cook the bread and great dining rooms to welcome in

workers… juntoa elements that complete the landscape of

property: a back-to-back well to a vestibule, a staggered stone stops

that the gentleman of the property mounts to horse without difficulties…
    Some of the rustic big rambling houses in the field are in

Ferreries, is Mercadal or Alaior.   
    Many of these houses, with the decay of the sector

agriculturist, has destined itself to turn them into rural hotels,

of great acceptance.
    All this leaves out of place to urbanizations like the one of

Cove Morell or Binibeca (Binibèquer), result of the mixture of

the architecture Mediterranean-native of ibiza.

    We can find some other typical building like the Tower

Saura (Renaissance tower of defense of the coast), the old man

palace of Dog Squella in Citadel; The house Golden Delicious The Farm in

Mahón, to the purest colonial style.
