The Gin Xoriguer

The Gin Xoriguer is gin made from wine of grape and perfumed with juniper, and is one of the liquors most characteristic of Menorca.

One originates in century XVIII, when the British sailors and soldiers who during that time were in the island due to the British domination.  In Menorca not conocia the gin, but to the demand of the sailors, soon began to produce it imprortando juniper berries.

In century XX, Minorcan Miguel Pons creates the famous Gin Xoriguer, and its peculiar bottle has become a Minorcan symbol.

A variant of the Gin Xoriguer is the “Ointment”, gin with lemonade.
